milk_shake Rocks The 70’s at 2017’s International Show
milk_shake® UK & Ireland hosted their annual summer party at the stunning Grande Real Santa Eulalia Resort in the heart of Albufeira, Portugal, for over 250 guests. The 3-day event that celebrates success and passion, featured an innovative Hair Show in the theme of the 70’s, an informative Look & Learn session with live demonstrations by milk_shake® Creative Team, as well an exclusive evening hosted at Albuferia’s top night spot.
The milk_shake® 70’s themed live hair show wowed guests with the vibrant colours, Avant Garde hair styles and iconic music to launch the latest milk_shake collection ‘Blue Velvet’. milk_shake Ambassadors Shelley Pengilly, David Baker and Julian Dalrymple inspired the audience with their incredible cuts and ingenious designs as they took the crowd on an atmospheric journey through the 70’s from Psychedelic to Punk to Androgyny and Disco. Amongst our Ambassadors were some of the milk_shake® Educators including Andrew Smith and Kelly Summerfield who didn’t disappoint.
Opening the show was the incredible Shelley Pengilly, who took us on a trip back to the early 70’s with her ‘Psychedelic’ theme. Multicoloured afros, coloured crimps and flower power were the main feature of Shelley’s opening which had the audience in absolute awe. Shelley’s afro inspiration was based on psychedelic wallpaper that would grace every 70’s home, with a mix of colours and ‘trippy’ effects. Speaking about her stunning pink crimped design, she said that her inspiration was taken from adverts for soft drinks with lots of colour pop and stripes going across the page, with braiding added for texture.
David Vault Baker showcased his spin on 70’s Punk fashion by opening his set with a style that wowed the crowd for sure. As his first model walked down the runway, the audience were blown away by David’s innovative style- smashed vinyl’s and cd’s placed on the side of the hair with some serious backcomb! The second look proved that David has an incredibly creative imagination and passion to take hair to the next level by attaching BBQ grills to the head, weaving the hair in-between each grill and adding green and yellow colouring. David’s final design was what really confirmed his creativity as he attached shredded denim to the hair of his model and proceeded to cut it into a bob. Each style complimented his punk theme perfectly!
The last of the themed set, but certainly not least, was Julian Dalrymple with her take on Androgyny where she found inspiration from the late David Bowie and Studio 54 (Disco). For Julian’s first style, she created a quiff that would make even Elvis envious, with yellow’s and red’s running throughout the hair. It was the perfect combination of masculine and feminine styles to fit her theme. Julian’s second style was a beautifully long, blue ponytail that had a velvet reflection and texture by crimping. This was Julian’s spin on ‘Blue Velvet’ and what an impression it made. Closing her set, she created a yellow and orange style, with layers cut to create the perfect androgyny feel.
The milk_shake® Ambassadors Shelley Pengilly, David Baker and Julian Dalrymple were joined by milk_shake Educator Andrew Smith for the finale for the show where they each created a breath-taking style for the closing dance. The models set the stage alight with an incredible 70’s dance off that had all guests on the edge of their seats embracing the electric atmosphere. Each of the previous models came on stage one last time to show the audience once again, exactly how talented our team truly are. From the reaction, we received from the audience, it was evident that this was our best hair show yet and we couldn’t be prouder of each of our team. From the ambassadors to educators and management team, we couldn’t have done it without them.
